Zara unveils its most symbolic store in Lisbon, located in Praça D. Pedro IV, in the heart of Rossio. Rossio – officially called Praça D. Pedro IV – is one of the best known areas of the Portuguese capital. Located in the centre of Lisbon, this vibrant and cosmopolitan square brings together the city's culture, history and shopping tradition.

The new establishment is the latest expression of the Zara store model: A commercial concept based on large flagship stores, with a refreshed image and new product display areas. It is also equipped with the most efficient technological tools to ensure the best shopping experience. At the same time, the ‘boutique’ spaces, which feature special design and furniture, highlight the brand’s collections and offer a distinctive connection between the customer and the product.

The architectural concept developed by Elsa Urquijo Architects is based on highlighting the historical richness of the building and the various crafts that have been practiced within its walls over the years. This reflects the artisanal traditions of Portugal, emphasising the use of natural materials. Thus, elements such as Lioz stone from Sintra, Portuguese tiles from Viuva Lamego, wooden board ceilings, linen fabrics, lime mortars, cork, and the colour palette of the Pombaline style are prominently featured. The store covers nearly 5,000 square metres of commercial floorspace across four prominent floors of fashion collections for Women, Men, Children and Zara Home. As a commercial highlight, Zara Rossio has areas providing different experiences – such as Beauty, a play area in the Kid’s section – and ‘boutique’ spaces for brand-specific lines and collections such as Lingerie, Shoes & Bags, Origins, Athleticz and selected pieces from the collection of Zara Home + by Vincent Van Duysen. For an even more special experience, customers can enjoy the Zara Rossio pastry shop ‘Zara by Castro’, a collaboration with Castro - a Portuguese studio specialised in traditional pastéis de nata - where you can sit and have an exceptional coffee accompanied by a Portuguese pastel de nata in a unique and contemporary environment filled with history and memories.

Innovation in customer service

Zara’s aim with this new store concept in Lisbon is to offer customers a unique fashion experience which is integrated with our online platform, allowing to interact with the brand from any device. To do this, the store incorporates the latest technological innovations of Zara’s integrated physical and online store platforms, enabling customers to browse online in a store of their choice, check the available stock, or buy online and collect the order from the store within two hours. Zara Rossio also has other features such as: Booking of fitting rooms in the store itself or through the Zara app. Specific checkouts for returns. Automatic online returns point. Assisted checkout areas. The implementation of these new features is another step in the Inditex Group integration strategy for stores and online services, which is ever faster due to the development of our own differentiated technological ecosystem: The Inditex Open Platform. This proprietary, open, and modular digital architecture allows customer personalisation to be driven in real time, providing a new experience between fashion and the brand.

Efficiency

Zara Rossio operates some of the most advanced energy efficiency systems, a testament to Zara’s full commitment to sustainability. The measures adopted in this new store reflect this commitment and include high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, LED lighting for greater energy savings and the use of materials with less environmental impact. The store is also connected to our Inergy internal platform that centrally monitors the consumption of air conditioning and electrical equipment to optimize management, identify the most efficient systems, improve maintenance, and define strategies to reduce energy demand. Zara works continuously to reduce the environmental impact of its teams' daily decision-making through a roadmap and milestones for the whole value chain. It also develops reuse and recycling programmes to promote the circular economy and to reduce waste and the first-time consumption of raw materials.
